Research Group

The research group for Media and ICT (MICT) is affiliated to the Department of Communication Sciences at Ghent University. MICT was founded in 2004 and currently has 34 members. MICT carries out both fundamental social-scientific research and applied and policy-orientated research in the field of the new media and information and communication technologies.

In the research, it is not only the end-user who is of central concern, importance is also attached to the vision and strategies of all those involved in the innovation process: the hardware and software manufacturers, the service and content providers, the media institutions, the advertising sector, policymakers, etc. The research is also not solely focused on the end-product: MICT has expertise which can be deployed throughout the whole development process of new ICTs.

The research group possesses great expertise in both qualitative and quantitative empirical research. These methodological skills and instruments can be used in every phase of the innovation and development process (segmentation regarding adoption potential, forecasting & assessment, diffusion, implementation, adoption & acceptance of ICTs).

Through collaboration with IBBT (Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology), the research is a given a powerful new impetus. IBBT is a research institute which focuses on information and communication technology (ICT) in general and the development of broadband applications in particular.
