Biography

In 2010, Karel Verbrugge obtained a master’s degree in Communication Sciences (option New Media and Society) at Ghent University. His master thesis ‘Advertising Effect and Game Experience: How People Process Advertising Cues in Immersive Game Environments’ evaluated the application of standard advertising theory within the new framework created by interactive videogames and measured the effect of game experience on brand attitudes.

Since February 2011, Karel works at MICT as a junior researcher on several IBBT research projects. For the moment, he is active within the ICON project SPARC, which addresses the definition of a new service architecture and proof-of-concept for plug-in electrical vehicles. Additionally, he is involved with the iMind project, for which he works on an impact analysis and adoption potential assessment of medical imaging software.
