Biography

Laurence Claeys studied Sociology at the University of Ghent. After graduating in 1995, she followed an additional master in Genderstudies at the University of Antwerp. She worked for seviral years at the Centre for Women of the UA where she was responsible for setting up and moderating e-learning courses in Genderstudies. Laurence started in 2002 as a researcher at the Centre for Equal Opportunities (http://www.steunpuntgelijkekansen.be/), a policy research center. There she was responsible for investigating Equal Opportunities in the Network Society.

Laurence defended her doctoral thesis in 2007 with the working title "ICT in everyday life. An interpretative approach to Equal Opportunities in a Network Society'.

Since october 2006 Laurence works as a senior researcher for the Department of Ambient Media Applications from Bell Labs, the research department of Alcatel-Lucent. Her research is situated in the field of innovation and new applications in the domain of tangible media and ambient intelligence. She also examines the methodological implications of working in a multidisciplinary team.

In October 2009 Laurence also started as a 10% practicioner lecturar at the department of Communication Studies for the course "New Media and Society". Currently Laurence is an associate member of the research group.
