Veg-i-Trade
Veg-i-Trade is a European FP7 project, entitled: ‘Impact of climate change and globalization on safety of fresh produce – governing a supply chain of uncompromised food sovereignty’.
The project started on 1 May 2010 and will last for four years. It is focusing on challenges of microbiological hazards, and natural and man-made chemicals hazards, as well as their risk assessment and the development of new control measures towards food safety for the fresh produce chain.
Prof. dr. ir. Mieke Uyttendaele from the Department of Food Safety and Food Quality, Faculty of Bio-Science Engineering (UGent), is the project coordinator.
MICT-researcher Melanie De Vocht will conduct the risk communication-part of the research in the context of her PhD (supervisor Prof. dr. Verolien Cauberghe). By gauging the knowledge of all stakeholders about the potential risks on food safety of fresh produce, risk communication strategies can be developed which are adapted to the public and contexts.
The Faculty of Bio-Science Engineering (UGent) is collaborating with 23 international research institutes, universities and industrial partners (including SMEs) with an interest in the fresh produce chain. The countries represented are Belgium, Spain, Norway, Brazil, India, the Netherlands, South Africa, Egypt and United States of America.
